Editing Services and Fees

ELCS offers proofreading services for a wide range of documents. We work together with you to help you produce a corrected, polished English document that meets your requirements. From grammar to style, we will support your English needs.

Business Hours

• Hours of operation are Monday to Friday 10:00 - 19:00. We are closed Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and during seasonal holidays. Seasonal holiday closures will be posted on the ELCS website approximately one month in advance.

Standard Service

• Turnaround in 3 – 5 business days (Monday to Friday not including holidays). Turnaround may be longer for documents over 30 pages* or problematic English.
• Fee: ￥5,500/hour (plus 10% consumption tax), billed in 15-minute increments (alternate billing formats (e.g., per word) are available)
  • NOTE: A minimum charge of 30 minutes (¥2,750 standard; ¥1,800 student) will be applied for small orders. Small editing orders and orders for minor consulting (such as simply asking a question or two) are more than welcome, and we hope that this minimum rate will make it easier for you to submit orders for both minor and major English support. This minimum will not apply to the immediate follow-up (questions/clarifications) for a proofreading order.
• Student Rate: ￥3,600/hour (plus 10% consumption tax) billed in 15-minute increments (NOTE: The student rate is not eligible for rush service)
  • Please note: The student rate is only available for dissertations and theses. Multiple-author papers are not eligible for the student rate.

Rush Service

Same-day rush

• Turnaround by 22:00 of the day submitted
• Fee: Standard service rate plus 35% (plus 50% on Sundays and holidays)
• Restrictions:
  • Documents must be submitted by 10:00 a.m. for return on the same day. Documents submitted after 10:00 a.m. will be returned by the following day.
  • Longer documents may not be eligible for same-day service.
  • Same-day service may not be available without a reservation: advance notification is strongly recommended.
  • Same-day service is not available on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays without a reservation.

Next-day rush

• Turnaround by 22:00 the day after submission
• Fee: Standard service rate plus 25% (plus 40% on Sundays and holidays)
• Restrictions:
  • Documents must be submitted by 12:00 p.m. for return on the following day. Documents submitted after 12:00 p.m. will be returned within 3 days (including the submission day).
  • Longer documents may not be eligible for next-day service.
  • Next-day service may not be available without a reservation: advance notification is recommended.
  • Next-day service is not available on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays without a reservation.
